A country kitchen for a Cotswolds holiday cottage
/Here at Country Kitchens, we enjoy the challenge creating a brilliant design in a limited space, especially when it’s for a holiday cottage. We were recently commissioned to create a small compact kitchen for a beautiful Cotswolds bolthole called The Stables using a nautical theme.
It was essential this kitchen contained everything a holidaymaker could ever require for a short stay. The brief included the following:
Handcrafted solid wood kitchen
Solid wood kitchen interiors
Hand-painted units
Integrated dishwasher, double bin and single oven with hob above
Washing machine would be a helpful addition but not essential
Belfast sink preferred to give a traditional look
Nautical look throughout
With this brief in mind Country Kitchens drew up plans using its top of the range computer aided design (CAD) platform, ensuring the space available was utilised to its full potential.
The finished kitchen features handmade units in solid pine, which were hand-painted using Neptune’s ‘Mist’ Eggshell paint. This ensured the kitchen units not only followed the nautical theme, but were also durable.
The Belfast sink is from Villeroy and Boch, and this model was chosen because it’s shallower than the more traditional type of Belfast sink. The tap selected was a Grohe chrome central pillar tap. The dishwasher selected was a fully integrated Bosch SMV model which is excellent quality without breaking the bank.
One of the highlights of this kitchen is the beautiful worktops which are made from planked oak. This was bleached and oiled to give a driftwood look, whilst delivering an excellent level of waterproof protection.
The tiles were from Tile Giant and were chosen because they complement the overall nautical theme.
